by Erik Larson, Dead Wake Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Dead Wake books, #1 New York Times Bestseller From the bestselling author and master of narrative nonfiction comes the enthralling story of the sinking of the Lusitania On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic. But the Lusitania was one of the era’s great transatlantic “Greyhounds”—the fastest liner then in service—and her captain, William Thomas Turner, placed tremendous faith in the gentlemanly strictures of warfare that for a century had kept civilian ships safe from attack. Germany, however, was determined to change the rules of the game, and Walther Schwieger, the captain of Unterseeboot-20, was happy to oblige. Meanwhile, an ultra-secret British intelligence unit tracked Schwieger’s U-boat, but told no one. As U-20 and the Lusitania made their way toward Liverpool, an array of forces both grand and achingly small—hubris, a chance fog, a closely guarded secret, and more—all converged to produce one of the great disasters of history. It is a story that many of us think we know but don’t, and Erik Larson tells it thrillingly, switching between hunter and hunted while painting a larger portrait of America at the height of the Progressive Era. Full of glamour and suspense, Dead Wake brings to life a cast of evocative characters, from famed Boston bookseller Charles Lauriat to pioneering female architect Theodate Pope to President Woodrow Wilson, a man lost to grief, dreading the widening war but also captivated by the prospect of new love. Gripping and important, Dead Wake captures the sheer drama and emotional power of a disaster whose intimate details and true meaning have long been obscured by history.

Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by bestselling author Erik Larson offers a detailed look into the May 7, 1915 sinking of the British passenger ship the Lusitania by a German U-boat near the start of WWI. This review follows along the chronological storyline of the book, and includes special attention to the extensive detail offered by the author. The summary is followed by an analysis of the book's strengths and weaknesses. Larson weaves this story by offering alternating views of the captain of the Lusitania, the commander of the sub that sank it, the passengers aboard the ship, British naval intelligence officers, and President Wilson. The general story line is chronological and the various perspectives alternate throughout the telling. Two central thesis are developed throughout the book. The first is that the author is sympathetic to the captain of the Lusitania who was somewhat maligned after the event by those who sought to blame the sinking of the ship on his incompetence. The second concerns the suggestion that there was deliberate negligence on the part of British intelligence and leadership who recognized strategic advantage in the ship being attacked in terms of its potential to draw Americans into the war as allies. The author uses rich archival detail to support both claims. Larson is both an accomplished journalist and historical novelist. He has written four New York Times bestselling books on subjects ranging from serial killers to hurricanes. He has written for The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine as a staff journalist. He has been a contributing author to The Atlantic, Harper's, and The New Yorker. His academic background includes a bachelors in Russian history, language and culture from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters in journalism from Columbia University. Dead Wake

by Dawn McKenna, Dead Wake Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Dead Wake books, DIY has a sinister component in historic Apalachicola, Florida, When the local florists find a dead guy in their wall, it opens up a decades-old missing persons case. It also opens up a Pandora's box of secrets - secrets that might have ramifications for Sheriff's Office investigator Maggie Redmond. Maggie and Sheriff Wyatt Hamilton learn that local kingpin Bennett Boudreaux was the primary suspect in the disappearance of Holden Crawford almost forty years ago, but he had an alibi. The problem is, no one knows what that alibi was. The former sheriff won't tell, and even Boudreaux himself refuses to say. When a photograph of Maggie's own father becomes an important part of the case evidence, learning Boudreaux's secret becomes even more crucial. When is going to jail for a murder you didn't commit preferable to revealing the proof of your innocence? Who is Boudreaux really shielding? It might be the same person Maggie wants to protect. Reviews for The Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series Okay, I confess - I'm hooked on Dawn Lee McKenna. If she writes it, I'm going to buy it and read it without much thought about it. Love the stories in this series, and love the characters. I read all I could get and am waiting for more. Ms. McKenna is a truly gifted writer, especially with her dialogue. I hope the Forgotten Coast series continues for many, many novels. It's a heck of a world to get lost inside of, and I really love these characters. But if McKenna kills the rooster, I'll never forgive her. Reminded me of HBO's True Detective with its slightly ominous depiction of southern life. I must add my praise for this unexpectedly complex book, which I bought because it's set in a location I've loved for years and because I enjoy good mysteries. I'm surprised but very happy to report that McKenna gave me considerably more than I expected. The dialogue is masterful and her description of Apalachicola is dead-on. You actually feel the humidity and hear the rustle of the palm trees. I was so drawn into the book that I read it in one sitting - I couldn't put it down. Taking a chance on a new author and falling in love with their writing style is as cool as discovering a musical group you'll end up listening to for decades. That is how I felt when I discovered Dawn Lee McKenna's book, Low Tide. I can see myself reading this author's books for many years.

Ghosts

by Henrik Ibsen, Ghosts Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Ghosts books, The first two plays in this volumes, "Ghosts" and "A Public Enemy" are social dramas of Ibsen's middle period; the former, especially was greeted with outrage as a result of Ibsen's defiance of conventional morality of the period. "When We Dead Wake," his last play, handles in a symbolic manner the individual inner conflict, providing Ibsen's own comment on his life-work and his renunciation of verse. All three show very different aspects of the dramatist's work - a realistic drama, a comedy and a piece of symbolism respectively.
