The Letter To The Romans

by Emil Brunner, The Letter To The Romans Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Letter To The Romans books, Brunner sees St Paul's Epistle to the Romans as 'the chapter of destiny of the Christian Church'. Here, in Luther's words, is the 'purest gospel' upon which the very existence of the Christian faith depends and from which it draws its life. Concentrated, decisive and instructive, nothing within the New Testament is more closely argued both theological and personal. Out of his years of scholarly wisdom Brunner meditates on the great Epistle, and in his commentary elucidates the massive Pauline arguments which are the bed rock of Christian belief and Christian proclamation

The Letter To The Romans

by Stanley E. Porter, The Letter To The Romans Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Letter To The Romans books, Written at a time when his ideas and practices were provoking opposition even from fellow Christians, the Apostle Paul articulates in his Letter to the Romans his understanding of God's plan for humanity and discusses the implications of this plan for different groups of people. Romans is considered by many as the most theologically significant and sophisticated book of the Bible. This volume is designed to bridge the gap between studying Romans as an academic enterprise and experiencing how Romans can speak today in the life of the church. All of the chapters in this volume--especially those devoted to the content of Romans--were written with both exegesis and application in mind. All of the contributors to this volume believe that Romans has a crucial voice within the church today and that those who preach, teach, and study the book need to be attentive to its witness and to its timeliness.

Paul S Letter To The Romans

by J. C. O'Neill, Paul S Letter To The Romans Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Paul S Letter To The Romans books, The Epistle of Paul to the Romans has always been regarded as central to the history and expansion of the Christian Church. Yet, with its apparent support of predestination (which mocks morality) and of civil authority, however tyrannical, it has been the subject of fierce controversy among commentators from Chrysostom in the fourth century to Dodd in our own. For the most part, however, they have accepted that Romans was written by one man at one time to one audience. The author, however, challenges the truth of this assumption. He maintains, both in principle and in detail, that the process of copying from manuscript to manuscript has allowed numerous glosses and interpolations to creep into the text of Paul's letter as it was finally established. He also claims that even longer sections not written by Paul were deliberately added. The words of Romans are not necessarily the words of Paul.

The Letter To The Romans

by Douglas J. Moo, The Letter To The Romans Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Letter To The Romans books, For more than twenty years Douglas Moo’s NICNT volume on Romans has been providing pastors, students, and scholars with profound insight into Paul’s most famous letter. In this thorough revision of his commentary, Moo deals with issues that have come into prominence since the first edition (1996), incorporating the latest research and rewriting the text throughout for better comprehension. Exegetically astute and theologically minded, Moo interacts critically with the new perspective on Paul, highlights the emphasis in Romans on “practical divinity,” and traces the theme of the gospel throughout the letter. His Letter to the Romans in this second edition will inform and enlighten a new generation of serious Bible readers.

The Letter To The Romans

by Sigve K. Tonstad, The Letter To The Romans Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Letter To The Romans books, 'What God has joined together, let no one put asunder' is a motto for this commentary. Against a prevailing theological tradition that God's compassion is for human beings only and not also for non-human creation and the earth, Tonstad raises his voice in protest. The 'sundering' omissions are so monumental that only a renewed reading of Romans from the ground up can hope to undo them. If we read Romans through the eyes of Tonstad, Paul will be found to be speaking about the faithfulness of Christ and not only about faith in Christ; to be describing sin in societal terms and not only as a problem of individuals; his enigmatic 'I' in Romans 7 can be understood as telling the story of Eve and not only rehashing his own biography; and Paul will be seen to give voice to non-human creation and the earth to a degree that is elsewhere heard in the Bible only in the Old Testament and, of course, hardly ever in the pulpit or the seminary. The theology of Romans will turn out to be an inclusive theology of divine compassion rather than a theology of divine sovereignty, arbitrarily exercised. On the theological foundation of compassion, Paul outlines an ethical vision of compassion in human community, with regard to citizenship and government, and in the mixed fellowship of Jews and Gentiles in the house churches in Rome. Paul's ecological bona fides are inseparable from his theological vision and not an imposition from without; his call to mercy blends with the best and most urgent sentiments of contemporary ecologists. In the striking reciprocity between theology and ecology in Romans, Paul puts on display what God has joined together, and, better still, what God has done to join together all that is asunder.
